Adult Transition Program Criteria
In order for the Adult Transition Program to benefit the students and provide a quality program, the following elements are imperative for a successful outcome.
Student's Profile should include:
- Emerging travel training skills (knows about public transportation, how to pay (tap card) and which bus to take to and from school).
- No major behavior or discipline issues that inhibit employment opportunities.
- Students must exhibit independence in toileting and feeding.
- Students are able to transition from the school setting into the community with minimal staff supervision.
- Staff supervision will fade out and students will be taught to communicate by phone to facilitate student independent skills.
- Students should not require the support of a SCA (minimum 1 year without the support of a SCA at high school) unless needed for vision or hearing support.
- Students are able to work independently with minimal prompts.
- Ability to express their wants and needs in their primary form of communication (verbal or nonverbal) independently.
- A desire and motivation to be as independent as possible in learning life skills, including job training and employment opportunities, daily living skills and utilizing city transportation..
