All students are encouraged to participate in as many activities as possible considering time, grades and ability. You may participate in several sports during each year. Most of the sports will have tryouts to make the team. The individual coaches will specify information on these tryouts. High School athletics are designed to provide an opportunity to develop one’s skills. It is no longer a recreational activity. As an aspiring team member, everyone must understand that generally the best players play and some students may even get cut from the team.

Most of the sports will be offering summer programs this coming summer as well as each summer thereafter. You are encouraged to take part in the summer program because it will introduce you to the coach and to the athletic program. It will give you the opportunity to experience that sport in action. More than anything else, an athlete at Hart High School is committing to be a part of a winning program. To do that, you must be willing to sacrifice. This certainly will include a great deal of your personal time during the season, as practices alone are usually two hours a day. You will need to manage your time to balance the demands of the sport, schoolwork, family and other obligations.

Hart High School has an eligibility policy. You must maintain a 2.0 grade point average and be passing at least four classes to be able to play. Your grades will be checked each quarter. You may gain or lose eligibility at that time. Freshmen are granted automatic eligibility their first quarter as a 9th grader.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the District also require that every athlete have a physical examination prior to any involvement in athletics, including tryouts, practices and contests. Parent permission and proof of insurance is also required. All athletes will clear for participation online through AthleticClearance.com. The only item to turn in will be a hard copy of the Doctor’s physical. All physicals must be dated AFTER May 1st of this year.
